Things are moving along nicely – you’re on track with your project – you’ve got your flooring install scheduled, and you’re starting to think about protecting it for the duration of the project. Great! But… what floor protection shall I use? There’s so many options… How do I know I’m getting the correct protection that will help rather than hinder? Let us simplify it for you.

When choosing a temporary floor protection solution, there are 3 key questions you need to ask yourself to ensure that you choose the correct solution.

1) HOW LONG WILL I NEED TO PROTECT MY FLOOR FOR? This is extremely important because if you need to protect your floor for a long period of time (ex. longer than 3 months) then you need to choose a floor protection solution that is durable enough to withstand traffic for that period of time. If the floor protection isn’t durable enough, it will become a disaster taking lots of time and effort to patch, repair, or even replace the protection.

2) WHAT TYPE OF TRAFFIC WILL THE FLOOR BE IMPOSED TO? Depending on whether your floor will be subjected to heavy carts and lifts, or just light foot traffic will make a difference in the type of protection that you require. Do you need high impact protection or just light dust protection? Also if this is an area such as an entrance way, you may require a waterproof or water resistant solution to handle the moisture from weather and the elements tracking into your project.

3) WHAT IS THE FLOOR SURFACE YOU ARE PROTECTING?

If you have a softer wood floor, this is more likely to get damaged easily compared to a concrete floor, for example. This is an important question that needs to be assessed to ensure that you get the correct level of protection for your floor that it requires to stay damage free.

There are many other important questions that will help you choose the correct solution for your project, however these are the top 3 to help you on your way!
